Privacy Policy

Last updated: 28 August 2026

CashTrail is a personal cash ledger for Android. It is designed so that your financial data stays on your device and under your control. This policy explains exactly what that means.

The short version: CashTrail has no user accounts and no server that stores your transactions. Everything you enter lives in a local database on your phone. We don't collect, transmit, sell, or share your financial data.

What data CashTrail stores

All of the following is stored only in a local SQLite database on your device:

This data is never uploaded to us or to any third party. If you uninstall the app or clear its data, this information is permanently deleted from your device and cannot be recovered by us — because we never had a copy.

Data that leaves your device

There is one optional feature that transmits data: receipt scanning. If you choose to scan a receipt, the image you select is sent to a processing service to extract transaction details from it. The extracted text is returned to your device and the image is not retained for any other purpose. If you never use receipt scanning, CashTrail operates entirely offline.

What CashTrail does not do

Permissions

CashTrail requests only the permissions it needs for features you invoke:

Data security

Because your data is stored locally, its security is tied to your device's own security. We recommend using a device lock (PIN, pattern, or biometric). Data transmitted during receipt scanning is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection.

Children's privacy

CashTrail is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Material changes affecting how data is handled will be reflected in the app before taking effect.
